Tennis Grand Slam Tournament of the Australian Open Raise Funds for Haiti
True tennis champion, Roger Federer took the initiative to invite his colleagues to raise funds for earthquake victims in Haiti. By the start of a tennis grand slam tournament of the Australian Open, Federer took his colleagues to conduct a charity game to raise funds for Haiti.
The game is a charity mixed doubles match, followed by Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewittd Kim Clijsters. The tennis is played by using a microphone that allows them to do funny commentary on the game in progress.
Charitable games conducted at the Rod Laver Arena had raised 125 thousand dollars from tickets sold for 10 U.S. dollars. But the numbers became doubled after the world body such as the tennis ATP Tour, WTA Tour and ITF have contributed 265 thousand dollars worth of U.S. and plus the Grand Slam committee donated 177 thousand U.S. dollars.
Additional funds from the auction diperolah through rakt auction site eBay and managed to raise funds for 40 thousand U.S. dollars. Acquisition announcement this charitable fund immediately after Federer won to ensure himself the Australian Open title in 2010 by beating Andy Murray in the finals 6-3 6-4 7-6.
“The tragedy of Haiti has touched hearts all over the world,” said Tennis Australia CEO Steve Wood. “Community tennis world just want to help them.”
